ADUR ESTUARY: A Little Egret, eight House Martins and three Lesser Black-backed Gulls.

THE DOWNS (Lychpole Farm, No-Man's-Land, Titch Hill): We were pleased to see that all nine shelduck young were still thriving, accompanied by their parents. We walked through No-Man's-Land and back along Titch Hill, noting three Corn Buntings, a Yellowhammer, three Swifts, 11 Whitethroats and a couple of Buzzards. A Blackcap revealed itself to be a talented mimic, performing a decent Nightingale before giving a few Blackbird calls.

FERRING RIFE: A pair of Reed Buntings were feeding young on one side of the river while the male from the neighbouring territory sang from the other. Four Reed Warblers and a couple of Swallows were among the other birds seen.

KINGSTON GORSE: Two Red Kites and a Swallow flew over but there was little else this time.

STEEP DOWN: 11 Corn Buntings and six Stonechats.

WIDEWATER LAGOON: Black Swan, Mute Swan and two Little Egrets.

ADUR ESTUARY TO CEMENT WORKS: Two Little Egrets, an Oystercatcher, a Kestrel, Skylarks singing, two Lesser Black-backed Gulls, a Sedge Warbler, six House Martins, two Reed Buntings and two Swallows.

THE DOWNS (Annington Hill, Coombe Head, Steep Down): Four Grey Partridges, two Buzzards, two Stonechats, six Meadow Pipits and 15 Corn Buntings.

HIGHDOWN: Two Lesser Whitethroats, two Red Kites, a Yellowhammer, a Sparrowhawk, a Buzzard and a Swift.

BROOKLANDS PARK: Three Cetti's Warblers, a Chiffchaff, two adult Mediterranean Gulls, a Reed Warbler and the pair of Mute Swans with their seven young.

THE DOWNS: Six Corn Buntings, two Yelowhammers, a Lapwing, a male Stonechat, at least one Red Kite and two Buzzards between Steyning Bostal and Cissbury Ring.

THE DOWNS: A walk around the downs north of Sompting, around Steep Down and Titch Hill, included an encounter with the QUAIL found by the Steep Down north path the previous day, which gave an unexpected and rather good flight view, as well as a few bursts of song. Just as good was a brood of nine Shelducks, with both parents, on the Lychpole Farm 'wetland'. A rather late Yellow Wagtail called as it flew over and two Mistle Thrushes rattled as they flew by. 10 Corn Buntings included several in song and other birds included a Bullfinch, a singing Meadow Pipit, a Stonechat, three Kestrels, a Sparrowhawk and good numbers of Whitethroats and Skylarks. A Cormorant flew over.

BROOKLANDS PARK: A 3cy Yellow-legged Gull late morning then flew east, the family of Mute Swans, a Cetti's Warbler and two Lesser Black-backed Gulls. The family of five Coot young was still complete and two Reed Warblers were singing, plus a Black-headed Gull.

FERRING RIFE: A Lesser Whitethroat, a Reed Bunting, five Reed Warblers, two Little Egrets, two Swallows and a Swift - before cycling on to Highdown.

GORING GAP: Eight Oystercatchers, 12 Sanderlings, a Fulmar, six Gannets, 30 Turnstones, 12 Sanderlings and a Great Crested Grebe, two Pheasants, a Skylark, two Blackcaps and a Whitethroat.

HIGHDOWN: Two Marsh Tits, a Treecreeper, Nuthatch and Coal Tit, while a Yellowhammer appeared in the open area. A Lesser Whitethroat, seven Skylarks and a flock of 280 mainly juvenile Starlings were also noted, plus a pair of Canada Geese with six young.

WEST WORTHING: At least four Swifts were overhead, which was reassuring as I haven't had a sniff of any round here for days (DKC).

ADUR ESTUARY: It was a beautifully calm morning at the Adur Estuary, where I had a Common Sandpiper, two Oystercatchers, two Mute Swans, two Little Egrets, a Sparrowhawk, a Cetti's Warbler, a Swallow and a Reed Warbler (DKC).

BRAMBER BROOKS: Tawny Owl and two Reed Warblers (Bt).

THE DOWNS (north of Sompting): Two Corn Buntings, three Yellowhammers, a Mistle Thrush, six Whitethroats, 10 House Martins and three Swallows (Bt).

LANCING: HOOPOE flew over fields north of Lancing at c1.30pm. Also Mistle Thrush (SOS).

RIVER ADUR, A27 BRIDGE TO BOTOLPHS: I continued walking along the Adur beyond the A27 bridge to the Botolphs bridge and returned on the other bank. A lot of birds were singing along this stretch this morning, including a Cuckoo (my first one seen this year), eight Sedge Warblers, two Cetti's Warblers, seven Reed Warblers, nine Reed Buntings, a Lesser Whitethroat, nine Whitethroats, seven Skylarks and four Chiffchaffs. 13 House Martins were busy over the river opposite Lancing College and I had six Swallows. A Yellow Wagtail flew north - there seems to have been a late mini-pulse of these. Other birds included a Peregrine, a Common Sandpiper, a juvenile Grey Wagtail, four Swifts and a Red Kite (DKC).

WIDEWATER LAGOON; Cycling through Widewater was quiet, with just four Sandwich Terns offshore, a singing Whitethroat and a lone 2cy Mute Swan during my brief stop there (DKC).

FERRING RIFE: A bright male Yellow Wagtail was only my second on the deck locally this year. A Red Kite was viewable towards Highdown. At least six Great Crested Grebes were offshore, along with a Common Tern, four Sandwich Terns and four Gannets. Other observations included two Whimbrel, four Reed Warblers, a Lesser Whitethroat, two Swifts, four Oystercatchers, a Mediterranean Gull, a Little Egret, a Grey Heron, an adult male Kestrel, a Reed Bunting, a singing Goldcrest and seven Moorhens (DKC).

GORING GAP: Highlights this morning included three flyover Yellow Wagtails, a Whimbrel, a singing Reed Warbler, 14 Sanderlings, 22 Turnstones, two Mediterranean Gulls, a Sparrowhawk, 24 Great Black-backed Gulls and three Sandwich Terns (DKC).

ADUR ESTUARY: Two Whimbrel and the drake Shelduck still (SOS).

CISSBURY RING: I decided against a dawn start today and went back to bed for a bit. Once it warmed up, I cycled to Cissbury Ring, where six Stonechats included my first juvenile of the year. Four Yellowhammers showed nicely and another highlight was two Buzzards spinning with locked talons, a dramatic sight quite low above me. I counted 20 Whitethroats, and five Swallows were seen. Two Firecrests were nearby (DKC).

BROOKLANDS PARK: An early morning walk in the cold northerlies produced a Common Sandpiper on the raft, a Garden Warbler, two Cetti's Warblers, a Grey Wagtail, a Reed Bunting, a Lesser Black-backed Gull, a Grey Heron, a House Martin, two Reed Warblers, two Swifts, three Swallows, the family of Mute Swans, plus two Oystercatchers along the beach (DKC). Also Sandwich Terns and Gannets offshore (SOS).

THE DOWNS (between Cissbury and No-Man's-Land): On the downs between No-Man's-Land and Cissbury, Ingrid and I had a Peregrine, a Corn Bunting, four House Martins, seven Swallows, a Mistle Thrush, two Yellowhammers and three Red-legged Partridges (DKC).

SHOREHAM: A Gannet and 18 Sandwich Terns flew east offshore; three Oystercatchers flew over High Street (SOS).

STEEP DOWN: Eight Corn Buntings and two Grey Partridges (Bt).

WEST WORTHING: At home in Worthing in the middle of the day, two Mediterranean Gulls flew over and a Blackcap was singing just across the road. A quick trip to the shops produced good views of female Peregrine (DKC).

BROOKLANDS PARK: A Common Sandpiper, House Martins, Swallows ,two Cetti's Warblers, around four Reed Warblers, a Reed Bunting, six Swifts, two Swallows, a Sparrowhawk, and the complete Mute Swan family (SOS).

THE DOWNS: Two Wheatears, four Yellow Wagtails, 34 Corn Buntings and Sand Martin (Bt).

GORING GAP: Female SERIN on greensward opposite Withdean Avenue early morning (RBA). Also Whinchat, Wheatear, six Arctic Skuas, Fulmar, Willow Warbler, 87 Gannets, a Great Crested Grebe, two Great Skuas, a Grey Plover, four Linnets, 32 Sandwich Terns, Dunlin, nine Swallows, three Swifts, House Martin, Sand Martin, 17 Turnstone, Whimbrel, Yellow Wagtail, four Oystercatchers (Bt).

SALVINGTON: A good number of Swifts were noted today, with at least 30 seen moving purposely eastwards, whilst 3 Swifts seemed to be lingering around a regular colony site, a few Swallows and a single House Martin were also migrating through, raptors were up enjoying the warm sunshine, 2 of each of Peregrine, Buzzard and Sparrowhawk were observed and a single Red Kite thermaling over High Salvington (NB/NO)

ADUR ESTUARY: Four Ringed Plovers, two Dunlin and a Whimbrel by tollbridge this morning (SOS).

BROOKLANDS PARK: Still no decent fall of migrants. Or that mythical Hoopoe that should have been feeding on the redundant golf course greens! Just a single Common Whitethroat and 2 Willow Warbler. Offshore the sea was once again bird less save for a few gulls, a single Wheatear was on a rock groyne. Around the lake 3 Grey Heron a pair of Lesser Black backed Gulls on the island and a Common Sandpiper. Lone Oystercatcher flew west calling (BFF).

FERRING RIFE: Wheatear, Whimbrel, two Garden Warblers, six Swallows, a Sedge Warbler, four Reed Warblers, two Reed Buntings, Kestrel, four Turnstones, eight Moorhens and a Mallard (Bt).

GORING: Willow Warbler (Bt).

KINGSTON GORSE: HOOPOE flew north at 9.58am (RBA). Also two Willow Warblers, Great Crested Grebe, 16 Turnstones, 18 Sanderlings, two Sandwich Terns, a Gannet and four Swallows (Bt).

MILL HILL: Garden Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, Cetti's Warbler (towards River Adur) and a few House Martins and Swallows (Bt).

SALVINGTON: 2 Swifts were hawking around a regular haunt this afternoon so hopefully our local Swifts are back (NB).

SHOREHAM: Six Swifts flew over Eastern Avenue (SOS).

SOMPTING: NIGHTJAR flew low north over Hamble Road/ Test Road junction at c8.30pm (SOS).

STEYNING: Four Marsh Tits, Yellowhammer and Swift (Bt).

WEST WORTHING: Two Swifts, acting like locals as they screamed and circled in no particular direction, greeted me this morning at home, where later a noisy flock of nine Lesser Black-backed Gulls was quite noteworthy (DKC).

WIDEWATER LAGOON: MANDARIN and GREAT WHITE EGRET flew east; also eight Wheatears, 20 Dunlin, a Sanderling, five Whimbrel and 'many' Gannets (SOS).

SOUTHWICK GREEN: Three Corn Buntings flew over this morning (SOS).

STEYNING: Swift (SOS).

WEST HILL, FINDON: Two Bullfinches (Bt).

WEST WORTHING: Two Great Crested Grebes, three SwiftsSwallow, Sparrowhawk, 11 Sandwich Terns, a Gannet and 10 Black-headed Gulls (Bt).

BROOKLANDS PARK A gentle stroll around Brooklands earlier this morning was very pleasant in the warm sunshine. Surprise by the way of an Oystercatcher calling and flying north over the railway line. It actually looked like that slow display flight. Made me think are they breeding on one of the roofs on the nearby by industrial estate? Common Sandpiper was on the lake before calling vigorously before flying off. 4 Singing Willow Warbler and now 5 Reed Warbler singing. 2 Sand Martin flew over plus, the usual suspects (BFF)
