ADUR ESTUARY: It was a beautifully calm morning at the Adur Estuary, where I had a Common Sandpiper, two Oystercatchers, two Mute Swans, two Little Egrets, a Sparrowhawk, a Cetti's Warbler, a Swallow and a Reed Warbler (DKC).

BRAMBER BROOKS: Tawny Owl and two Reed Warblers (Bt).

THE DOWNS (north of Sompting): Two Corn Buntings, three Yellowhammers, a Mistle Thrush, six Whitethroats, 10 House Martins and three Swallows (Bt).

LANCING: HOOPOE flew over fields north of Lancing at c1.30pm. Also Mistle Thrush (SOS).

RIVER ADUR, A27 BRIDGE TO BOTOLPHS: I continued walking along the Adur beyond the A27 bridge to the Botolphs bridge and returned on the other bank. A lot of birds were singing along this stretch this morning, including a Cuckoo (my first one seen this year), eight Sedge Warblers, two Cetti's Warblers, seven Reed Warblers, nine Reed Buntings, a Lesser Whitethroat, nine Whitethroats, seven Skylarks and four Chiffchaffs. 13 House Martins were busy over the river opposite Lancing College and I had six Swallows. A Yellow Wagtail flew north - there seems to have been a late mini-pulse of these. Other birds included a Peregrine, a Common Sandpiper, a juvenile Grey Wagtail, four Swifts and a Red Kite (DKC).

WIDEWATER LAGOON; Cycling through Widewater was quiet, with just four Sandwich Terns offshore, a singing Whitethroat and a lone 2cy Mute Swan during my brief stop there (DKC).
