BROOKLANDS PARK:
Little Gull - Brooklands Park - February 2014 (Nick Bond)
Normally seen offshore on spring sea-watches, in February 2014, there were 2 to 3 birds feeding up for a few days on the lake at Brooklands Park, allowing some great photo opportunities of this elegant gull, this bird was still in it's winter plumage, there was a 1st winter kicking around too
CISSBURY RING:
Yellowhammer - Cissbury Ring - June 2011(Nick Bond)
Stonechat - Cissbury Ring - October 2011 (Nick Bond)
Resident species up on Cissbury, along with Corn Buntings, certainly a good spot to catch up with these south downs specialities
DURRINGTON:
Waxwings - Durrington - February 2013 (Nick Bond)
Also featured on our rarities/scarcities page, you cannot beat more pics of these beautiful birds that graced our area, these birds frequented Salvington Road and were regularly seen outside Durrington Junior School, which also attracted the attention of the local coppers, but the school soon embraced their Scandinavian visitors and were soon informing their pupils and parents! This flock were probably the same birds that were in Rustington beforehand and we had a maximum count of 32 birds
GORING GAP:
Fieldfare - Goring greensward - January 2013 (Nick Bond)
Snowfall on the coast here produced unprecedented cold weather movements of winter thrushes, west along the coast, many dropping into feed on the thawing greensward, a couple of Woodlark were also found along the path just west of the sea lane café, numbers of Fieldfare probably exceeded 2k and were slightly less Redwings, although the birds were suffering hardship in the conditions, this was a great local birding spectacle
Glaucous Gull - Goring Gap - January 2016 (Nick Bond)
Iceland Gull - Goring Gap - March 2018 (Nick Bond)
See the rarities/scarcities page for the account for these arctic visitors, love a flight shot!
Sandwich Terns - Goring Gap - March 2013 (Nick Bond)
Another reason why the roost fields in winter/early spring are so important for roosting birds, was great to witness just over 100 Sandwich Terns drop in and rest up for a few hours before continuing their migration eastwards, speaking with local birders, the opinion is that this is a record count for the site, the photos show only a selection and we forgive the odd Med Gull for photo bombing
Snow Bunting - Goring Gap - February 2013/January 2016 (Nick Bond)
A regular wintering site for Snow Buntings turning up, the whole coastline has been good over the years for this scarce delight and often attracts many photographers from far and wide
A snow covered beach - Goring Gap - December 2010
WIDEWATER LAGOON:
Knot - Widewater - December 2017 (Nick Bond)
This bird was fairly tame at times feeding by the shallow pools next to the central pathway
Scaup - Widewater - January 2011 (Nick Bond)
