Despite not having a promontory of any kind, Worthing is among the best points on the Sussex coastline for seawatching. Hour-for-hour, Worthing compares well against the likes of Selsey Bill and Splash Point when it comes to offshore migration. Spring is the best time, when skuas, terns, waders and wildfowl move past in good numbers, but patience at any time of year can be rewarded nicely.
Of course, seawatching can be undertaken from any point along the Worthing area coastline but there are a few particularly popular spots for birders. Working from west to east, these are Goring Gap, Marine Gardens, Brooklands Park and Widewater Lagoon.
John Newnham keeps a log for all seawatching records in the area but Marine Gardens has long been the most popular seawatching position and a Trektellen log is now maintained for this location. Please email your seawatching sightings from here with start and end times, weather and directions for all species to worthingbirding@gmail.com
