MARINE GARDENSSeawatching 09:45-12:30
Thinking I was already too late I made a late start to seawatching from Marine Gardens kicked into action by an obvious up channel movement. Within 15 mins of arriving a small flock of five Garganey and three Gadwall went west reasonably close to shore ( presumably birds reported earlier past Hayling Island),  followed about an hour late a second group of six birds.
Other birds moving east included Red-throated Divers (6), 103 Brent Geese, 6 Shoveler accompanied by three smaller unidentified “ teal-sized” ducks. My first three Sandwich Terns were also noted flying east along shore. Four Black-necked Grebes were also present offshore from 10:15 when I first picked them up until at least 12:15. Initially quite closer to shore they drifted further out but remained on view until just before we left at 12:15. Grebes had initially been found early morning at Goring Gap and had presumably drifted east. (N+COet al)

SALVINGTON: 2 Red Kites and 3 Buzzards over (RI)

GORING GAP
: A great find by Stephen Simpson whilst doing his Webs count this afternoon discovering a male DESERT WHEATEAR on the beach. Despite the busy beach, the bird showed well albeit rather mobile and was enjoyed by many local birders. This is the second record in the last 10 years for the Worthing area with the last record at Splash Point in October 2012.
In other news 310 Brent Geese moved offshore in a 15 minute period (DS)
