WIDEWATER LAGOON: Almost as soon as I arrived this afternoon the near-obligatory Kingfisher put in an appearance, flying across the eastern lagoon and perching on decking on the landward side. Latterly there has often been a single Turnstone on the lagoon, apparently eschewing the company of others on the beach, and so it was today. Two each of Redshanks and Little Grebes. The heavy swell made viewing anything on the sea difficult, but there was a Red-throated Diver just offshore and occasional glimpses of Great Crested Grebes. Some Common Gulls on the sea and along the shoreline. Around 25 further Turnstones on the rock groynes, an Oystercatcher flew past, and at the western end a roost of waders comprising about 230 Dunlin, 30 Ringed Plovers, 12 Sanderlings and a Knot.
