ADUR ESTUARY: BLACK-TAILED GODWIT and Bar-tailed Godwit both still from tollbridge (SOS). I was able
to go to the river and, just north of the railway bridge, found three
godwits together, feeding in the river margin, although against the
light they were two Bar-tailed Godwit (one, Richard’s one, a full red male, the other probably also male but less red and with a straighter bill) and yesterday’s BLACK-TAILED GODWIT (Alan Kitson via SOS).
BRAMBER BROOKS: Cuckoo, Sedge Warbler and Cetti's Warbler (Bt).
BROOKLANDS PARK: Common Sandpiper, Reed Warbler, four Wheatears (beach), several Willow Warblers, two or more Cetti's Warblers, a Reed Bunting, 10 Oysterctchers, several Sandwich Terns, a Gannet and a Great Crested Grebe (SOS).
CISSBURY RING: Two Mistle Thrushes, a Willow Warbler, five Whitethroats, three Stonechats, five Yellowhammers, three Meadow Pipits, a male Kestrel and a Lesser Black-backed Gull (Bt).
GORING GAP: In three hours (combined separate watches): Mediterranean Gull 112 E (several good flocks), Sandwich Tern 74 E, Brent Goose 18 E, Whimbrel 15 E, Arctic Skua two E (at 5.30 this afternoon) and Kittiwake two E. A single Bar-tailed Godwit flew W this afternoon and there were three Great Crested Grebes on the sea (CH). In afternoon pale morph Arctic Skua, two Arctic Terns, Common Tern, 25 Sandwich Terns, 65 Mediterranean Gulls, 25 Whimbrel, 20 Bar-tailed Godwits, 32 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, a flock of Common Scoters and six Swallows (GDM).
FINDON: Two Firecrests and a Yellowhammer (Bt).
HIGHDOWN: Two Red-legged Partridges, a Lesser Whitethroat, two Canada Geese, a Grey Heron, a Willow Warbler, two Bullfinches and six Yellowhammers (Bt).
MILL HILL: A Nightingale singing at the bottom of the Mill Hill
LNR slope this aternoon. Sadly it didn't sing for long. Hoping it will
stay rather than merely drop in on migration (Chris Corrigan via SOS).
NORTH GORING GAP: Two Sedge Warblers, a Little Egret and two Reed Buntings (Bt).
SHOREHAM: SERIN and adult ICELAND GULL (RBA).
SLONK HILL: Male Whinchat, nine Wheatears, a Yellow Wagtail, 10+ Whitethroats, three Stonechats and three Corn Buntings (SOS).
STEYNING DOWNLAND SCHEME: Nightingale singing, Cetti's Warbler, Reed Warbler, Mallard with 13 ducklings, two Whitethroats, a Yellowhammer, a Firecrest, two Linnets, two Whitethroats and two Yellowhammers (SOS).
WEST WORTHING: Two Sand Martins low east over the garden first thing were my first of the year and a Blackcap was singing (DKC).
WORTHING: ROSE-RINGED PARAKEET (SOS). 23 Whimbrel, four Shovelers, two Shelducks, 30 Sandwich Terns, a Gannet, 19 Mediterranean Gulls, a Swallow and 18 Linnets (Bt). Willow Warbler in garden (SOS).
