WORTHING PIER: I tried a seawatch off the pier this morning. It was quiet but somehow I managed to happily while away over two hours, mainly spent counting Gannets: 423 in total, with a roughly even split heading each way. The highlight was a close adult Red-throated Diver, but otherwise three Kittiwakes and six Common Scoters were the best on offer. 24 Mediterranean Gulls, two Common Gulls, 10 Sandwich Terns, nine Swallows and, oddly, a Grey Heron also flew past offshore. Two Grey Wagtails and four Meadow Pipits were heard overhead. In addition, a Little Egret was feeding on the beach and a Turnstone could be heard at roost below the pier (DKC).

FERRING RIFE : A Kestrel was hunting the field opposite the Swallows return as i drove past, I also noticed 12 Little Egrets looking sorry for themselves after the earlier heavy rain in the same field at the western end (NB)

SALVINGTON: My garden feeders were busy at lunchtime with a sizeable tit flock lingering for a while including a single Chiffchaff and good to see a Coal Tit using the feeders again (2 birds were visiting late winter), Goldcrests were around too and a Hummingbird Hawkmoth briefly visited (NB)
