GORING GAP : Another fine sunny morning but a brisk breeze made passerine searching difficult but birds were moving overhead and at times difficult to keep up with counts. 5
Stonechat's were together in the rough field area and were fairly mobile and a pair of
Reed Bunting dropped in here, and good number of Skylark and Meadow Pipits were in the field as was a mobile flock of 8 Linnet. 2
Chiffchaff were recorded but there was no sign of Tuesday's Yellow-browed Warbler in the plantation, the
Treecreeper was still around as was a single
Greater-spotted Woodpecker but was otherwise quiet. A quick look at the sea and there was a approx. 200
Gannets feeding offshore although fairly distant, but was a fantastic sight as they plunged into the water (by far the most I have seen here), 8
Brent Geese were also seen moving west, 28
Turnstone were recorded and 4
Oystercatcher flew west along the shoreline, a
Little Egret flew inland. Other than a few grounded
Goldfinch,
Pied Wagtails and
Meadow Pipits on the field to the east of the lower plantation, the other birds logged today were the following all moving east
NB
Swallow x 3
Siskin x 8
Linnet x 42
Skylark x 22
Meadow Pipit x 36
Goldfinch x 462 (birds were moving all morning so totals were no doubt far higher)
Chaffinch x12
Pied Wagtail x 16
Red Admiral and
Speckled Wood butterflies were also recorded on the wing
