MARINE GARDENSSeawatching 09:45-12:30
Thinking I was already too late I made a late start to seawatching from Marine Gardens kicked into action by an obvious up channel movement. Within 15 mins of arriving a small flock of five Garganey and three Gadwall went west reasonably close to shore ( presumably birds reported earlier past Hayling Island),  followed about an hour late a second group of six birds.
Other birds moving east included Red-throated Divers (6), 103 Brent Geese, 6 Shoveler accompanied by three smaller unidentified “ teal-sized” ducks. My first three Sandwich Terns were also noted flying east along shore. Four Black-necked Grebes were also present offshore from 10:15 when I first picked them up until at least 12:15. Initially quite closer to shore they drifted further out but remained on view until just before we left at 12:15. Grebes had initially been found early morning at Goring Gap and had presumably drifted east. (N+COet al)
