MARINE GARDENS: The Snow Bunting is still present, attracting more admirers by the day

SALVINGTON: A Raven flew west over Rogate Close early morning

SOUTHWICK CANAL: The Long-tailed Duck remained and still showing well

WIDEWATER: A Goosander was at the western end of the lagoons. 2 Stonechats, 2 Meadow Pipit, and a Redshank whilst on the sea offshore were several Great-crested Grebes and Razorbills

ADUR ESTUARY: A Greenshank in the dogs Trust channel, a Brent Goose on the saltings, 88 Lapwings, 2 Grey Plovers, 25 Dunlins and 38 Great-black backed Gulls

MARINE GARDENS: The Snow Bunting was still around on the beach around the The Waterwise play area. Offshore 1 Slavonian Grebe close in, 10 Great-crested Grebes, 15 Red-breasted Mergansers, 4 Common Scoter, 6 Gannets, 1 Red-throated Diver W.

MARINE GARDENS: The Snow Bunting was still present today for its 4th day. Been a popular attraction over the few days it has been with us. Attached is some locals enjoying the bird

ADUR ESTUARY: Common Sandpiper just north of A283, Greenshank and 42 Teal in houseboat channel, 2 Grey Plover, a Brent Goose and 96 Lapwing.

GORING GAP: 2 Siskin W, 50 Dunlins, 30 Sanderlings, 15 Grey Plovers, 1 Mediterranean Gull at Goring Gap this morning. This afternoon a Peregrine Falcon moved west, 2 Mediterranean Gulls, 8 Ringed Plover, c50 Pied Wagtails and c20 Skylarks were in the south western most field.

MARINE GARDENS: The Snow Bunting found yesterday showed well all day just west of the play area on the beach near Marine Gardens.

SHOREHAM HARBOUR: 1 Purple Sandpiper, 12 Turnstones, 2 Rock Pipits, 5 Meadow Pipits and 12 Greenfinch around the fort

SOUTHWICK CANAL: The Long-tailed Duck still present today just west of the Barrett Steel warehouse viewed from the North bank

STEYNING: A ringtail Hen Harrier again at the roundhill

WIDEWATER: 1 Brent Goose and 3 Red-throated Diver plus adult Mediterranean Gull and 3 Razorbills on the sea.

GORING GAP: Quieter this morning at the gap 45 Red-breasted Mergansers, 20 Great-Crested Grebes

MARINE GARDENS: News reached us this evening from Luigi Fernando who was fortunate to find and photograph a Snow Bunting on the beach opposite Marine Gardens at 3pm this afternoon

Although there has been records in recent years as sites nearby i.e. Goring Gap etc, this is the first record for 10 years on Worthing beach. Thanks to John Newnham for the table below with dates of previous records

SALVINGTON: 2 Redwings west over Rogate Road, a Grey Wagtail and Great-spotted Woodpecker still in the area

SHOREHAM HARBOUR: west arm Razorbill close Rock pipit, 5 Greenfinch,2 Purple Sandpipers and a Dunlin with them.

SOUTHWICK CANAL: A Long-tailed Duck was found this evening just west of Barret Steel warehouse (just outside our recording area but every chance it will be seen inside if the bird remains)

ADUR ESTUARY: 54 Teal and Greenshank in houseboat channel

CISSBURY RING: 2 Woodcock pre-dawn

GORING GAP: 1 Great White Egret moving towards shore and then carrying on westwards, 23 Shelduck on the sea, 15 Wigeon W, Common Scoter 10 East, 25 Red-breasted Merganser on sea, 10 Brent Geese, 6 Great-crested Grebes, a few Grey Plovers.

STEYNING ROUND HILL: 2 flocks of Stock Dove totaling 220, Peregrine Falcon, Red Kite, Corn Bunting, 60 Skylarks. A ringtail Hen Harrier also reported again in the area

WIDEWATER: A distant Swan sp. West was likely to be a Whooper Swan which was seen consequently offshore at Climping. Also this morning a Brent Goose on lagoon plus from seawatch 16 Brent Geese, 2 Great-crested Grebe, 3 Shelduck, 5 Common Scoter, 4 Guillemot, 10 auk sp (probably all/ most Razorbills) 4 Red-throated Diver plus both Song Thrush and Sparrowhawk in off.

ANGMERING: A Red Kite over Downs Way and another over the A27 near Hammerpot.

GORING BEACH:  this morning, Red-throated Diver 2W, Diver sp.1E, Gannet 81W 8E, Brent Goose 2W, Red-breasted Mergansers 1W 1E, Kittiwake 1E, Razorbill 3W, Auk sp. 110W 4E

GORING GAP: this morning: Gannets 40, Great-crested Grebes 6, Common Scoter 3E, 1 Brent Goose on the field.

MILL HILL: 07:55-10:40. 6 Fieldfares, Stonechat, 2 Greenfinch, Chaffinch, Bullfinch heard, 18 Goldfinches, Sparrowhawk

ADUR ESTUARY: at high tide Greenshank, 41 Redshank, Curlew, 2 Snipe, 26 Lapwing, 17 Teal

FERRINGFlat calm sea and high tide prompted me to scan for birds on it this morning between 0900 and 0930. I counted  76 Great-crested Grebes, 38 Red-breasted Mergansers, 11 Razorbills and 4 Cormorants. The bulk of the birds were at the western end towards Kingston. A single Common Scoter and c.10 distant Auks flew W.

LADYWELL: A nice selection today, the birds trapped and ringed are detailed in the table below. A Lesser Redpoll was also noted.


SHOREHAM HARBOUR: Razorbill off lifeboat station. Single Purple Sandpiper, 2 Rock Pipits & 9 Greenfinch at the Fort.

FERRING: 2 Long-tailed Ducks were seen offshore moving east, originally seen off Climping

GORING GAP: Offshore this morning 25 Red-breasted Mergansers, 2 Red-throated Divers, 1 Razorbill, 10 Gannets and 65 Skylarks moving westwards over the sea

WIDEWATER: The Black Redstart was around again today by the beach huts

GORING GAP: 0725-0930: Highlight was Black-throated Diver 1W quite close in. Otherwise Brent Geese 25W 1E, Shelduck 2W, Red-throated Diver 1E 2 on sea, Also on sea Great-crested Grebe 5, Red-breasted Mergansers 12, Wigeon 7. c270 Carrion Crows and c50 Pied Wagtails in field.

MILL HILL: 07:55-10:35: 2 Jays, 5 Redwings, 20 Blackbirds, Bullfinch, 80+ Goldfinches, 50 Woodpigeons, 4 Stock Doves

WIDEWATER: 2 Gadwall on sea

LADYWELL: Ringing birds trapped and ringed in the valley today in the table below. A Brambling was also noted

GORING: A Woodcock flew over private garden

GORING GAP: 0730-0950: 40 Pied Wagtails in fields. On sea: 10 Red-breasted Mergansers, 18 Great-crested Grebes, 7 Razorbills. A surprise Sandwich Tern east at 0750, returned at 0920 briefly before going east again. Little else moving: Gannet 30W, Brent Geese 2W, Curlew 1W, auk sp. 13W.

SOMPTING: 4 Redwings in the area

WIDEWATER: A Black Redstart seen on beach at the eastern most point of the lagoon, present 2 days

BROADWATER: A Grey Wagtail in private garden visiting garden pond

ANGMERING: Downs Way - Brambling NW, 3 Lapwings went down on field nw of here, ad Mediterranean Gull over, 253 Wood Pigeon west.

GORING GAP:  0715-0945: 42 Lapwings on beach early, flew off W. Brent Goose 266W, Velvet Scoter 6W (one flock), Wigeon 8W 6E, Teal 7W, Pintail 2W, Tufted Duck 2E then back W. On sea 14 Red-breasted Mergansers, 4 Great-crested Grebes, 1 Razorbill, 1 Grey Seal. On the fields c20 Skylarks, a few Pied Wagtails and 189 Carrion Crows were on the freshly ploughed fields

GORING BEACH: Seawatching this morning 08.40 to 12.00 produced the following:- Gannet 28W 1E, Great-crested Grebe 8 o/s, Brent Goose 130W, Wigeon 2W 7E, Teal 3E, Common Scoter 3W 3E, Eider 1W, Red-breasted Merganser 6W, Mediterranean Gull 1W, Great black-Backed Gull 10W, Auk sp. 18W 2E, Swallow 1W

GORING GAP: Ad male, & imm Peregrine Falcon, 45 Brent Geese west, 2 Wigeon west, 10ad, 1 2ndw Mediterranean Gulls following ploughing, 7ad 1 imm Great-black backed Gull, 5 Rook, female Stonechat.

SALVINGTON: 4 Redwing north over Rogate Road early doors

SHOREHAM HARBOUR: 1 Purple Sandpiper still and a Guillemot

GORING GAP: There weren't many waders or gulls  this morning but 2 Stonechats and a Reed Bunting were in the weedy field. c2460 Wood Pigeon flew west but little else overhead. 1 Razorbill and 3 Great Crested Grebes on the sea. 1 Red-breasted Merganser west, 1 Rock Pipit west along beach.

2nd November 2021

BROOKLANDS: 2 Brambling, Chiffchaff, Buzzard, Kestrel, Green Woodpecker, Goldcrests, Little Grebe, 4 Teal and Stonechat

CISSBURY RING:  Ring Ouzel 1, Brambling 2, Siskin 6, Mistle Thrush 4, Stonechat 2, Wood Pigeon 400 W this morning.

SALVINGTON: Brambling over west this morning and a Chaffinch calling at north end of Durrington rec.
