17th July 2021

ADUR ESTUARY: 6 Whimbrel, 1 Greenshank, 1 Common Sandpiper

ANGMERING: 5 adult Mediterranean Gulls over Downs Way

LADYWELL: It was a bright, sunny morning with a fairly fresh northerly wind and, like the last few sessions, turned out to be fairly quiet as the following table shows. The average number of birds caught in four July sessions last year was 94 so numbers are clearly down this year. However, the average for the years 2007-2019 was  41, much fewer than last year although better than we are achieving this year.

Two Beautiful Demoiselles and a Common Darter were noted by the pond, and the butterfly list included Small and Large Whites, Marbled White, Meadow Brown, Ringlet, Gatekeeper, Speckled Wood, Peacock, Small Tortoiseshell, Comma, Painted Lady and Red Admiral but no blues or skippers. A silver-Y moth was also noted on the way out of the valley.
